Simeon and his wife Shannon have a deep love for the gospel and a heart for people. Together, they are raising their son, Benaiah, and eagerly anticipating the arrival of their second child. Simeon first sensed a calling to Columbia while seeing the city’s strategic influence through the University of South Carolina and its diverse, growing community. He believes Columbia is a city where the gospel can take root and multiply, transforming both local neighborhoods and the nations through the many students and families who pass through. For Simeon and Shannon, planting Citizens Church in Columbia is more than a mission. It’s a family calling to reflect God’s heart for this city.
Why Columbia?
We’re planting Citizens Church in Columbia, South Carolina, because it’s a city where the gospel can move far beyond its borders. At the heart of Columbia is the University of South Carolina.
USC has over 38,000
students being shaped into the next generation of leaders.
50% of students come from East Coast cities with little gospel presence
1,600+ international students representing 87+ countries
Columbia is diverse, vibrant, and growing, yet deeply in need of a church that reflects that diversity and lives with gospel purpose. God has placed this need before us, and we believe Citizens Church is uniquely positioned to meet this gospel need.
