Whether you are heading back to Ames for the summer or just looking for a new way to serve, check out the following Summer Third Place opportunities!
Raising Readers Summer Program
K-3 Reading Buddies | June 11-July 26
Befriend and influence a Story County student through a summer program designed to help prevent children in Ames and Nevada from losing academic ground during the summer months! Volunteers (ages 14 and older) commit to volunteering 1-on-1 at least twice a week at their designated time for 45 minute sessions with their student. There are many days/times available, so it should work with any schedule! All volunteers will be trained by Raising Readers of Story County staff before the program starts.
Story County Reads – Summer Learning and Food Programs
Weekly Opportunities | 11:15a-2:15p | Monday-Thursday
Each Summer, United Way of Story County partners with local schools in Ames, Nevada, Huxley, and Collins to provide summer learning opportunities for K-5 students. This initiative is directed at combatting summer learning loss so that students are more ready to start the next school year. This program has already shown positive results in increasing school readiness! Right now, they need some extra hands in the classroom to partner with the professional teachers who are leading the summer classes. Consider joining today to get to help a teacher, befriend some Story County students, and to help promote education in our community!
