God created all of us with an inherent need for community. It is in the context of meaningful relationships with other believers that we grow as disciples of Jesus Christ (Hebrews 10:24-25). Connection Groups are the way we establish this kind of biblical community.
These groups of 8-15 people meet in homes in the surrounding communities of Ames and Ankeny throughout the week to offer a life-on-life context to connect and grow. We desire our people to become a God-honoring family, applying the Word of God to their lives, serving each other and the community in which they live, and growing in maturity and number as others are brought into the fold of God (1 Peter 2:9-10).
JOINING A CONNECTION GROUP
Each of our groups has its own feel, but at the core has the same objectives and core values. The first group you visit may not be the best fit for you, but there are many groups in different locations and life stages. Get connected where you fit best. Before visiting a connection group, you can take a look at core values, what to expect and browse groups and childcare resources.
LEADING A CONNECTION GROUP
Leaders are usually recommended by a current connection group leader or elder and then follow a process of application and evaluation by the elder team to become a leader. Connection group leaders are equipped at trainings throughout the year and meet regularly with a connection group coach. Evaluations and expectations of leaders are based on the Cornerstone leadership values (based on 1 Timothy 3:1-13, Titus 1:5-9, Acts 6:3-6).
