It can be a challenge to determine childcare options for during connection group, but finding a method of childcare is of great value to enable you to fully participate in community.
Connection Group Babysitter
Pool resources within your connection group and hire a common babysitter or two for all of the kids. You can have the babysitter meet at another couple’s house with the kids or at the same meeting place as connection group.
Rotate within the Group
Create a schedule within your own Connection Group where each couple or individual takes a turn watching the children in the group while the rest of the group participates in their regular meeting. Each couple or individual would only miss once every couple of months and they would get to know each others’ children!
Partner with Another Group
Partner with another connection group with kids that meets on a different night of the week. Create a schedule where a different couple or individual watches the children for the other group each week. With a rotation, one family may only miss connection group once every couple of months.
Partner with Another Couple
Partner with another couple at Cornerstone who attends a connection group that meets on a different night. Watch their children during their connection group time and have them watch your children during your connection group. This creates an even swap and is totally free!
Have Occasional “Family” Group Nights
Consider occasionally having a “family” group night where children are welcome to join in on the connection group meeting. This way, children are brought into the community context and it relieves the need for a babysitter occasionally.
Get to Know College Students
Get to know college students who you can provide a home cooked meal and a place to do laundry in exchange for childcare.
These are all suggestions to get you thinking of creative ways to address childcare because being in a connection group is worth it. Small groups of people have gathered in homes for community, encouragement and the study of the scriptures since the foundation of the church in Acts 2. The 21st century childcare question is nothing new!
