What Say You?: Who Is Jesus?
Teacher: Drew Stevenson
Bible Passage: Mark 8:11-33 | Read Passage Here
Ever wonder why more people don’t trust in God? If God wants everyone to trust in Him, why doesn’t He just show up in their living room and say, “Believe in me”? We know He has the power to do anything He wants to prove He’s real. So why doesn’t He do it?
Don’t you also find it strange that most of the people in the Bible who actually saw Jesus with their own eyes didn’t believe in Him either? They were looking straight into the face of God Himself.
In the gospel of Mark, God reveals himself in power. The book is full of explosive demonstrations of Jesus’ omnipotence. He heals every sickness. He commands demons to flee. He controls the weather with a word. He has the authority to forgive sins. He has power even over death itself.
Jesus came to show them His Kingdom, a hidden kingdom. But a kingdom that is hidden in plain sight, a kingdom so different that they didn’t recognize it when it was right in front of their eyes.
And the same thing happens today. Like the blind man who needed healing twice, we are so blind that we wouldn’t even recognize God if He were standing right in front of us. Even those who were closest to Jesus, who were firsthand witnesses of all his miracles, didn’t get it until they experienced His full power in the resurrection.
And that’s why He doesn’t just show up in our living room yelling, “Believe in me!” It takes spiritual eyes to see him. We need to believe and trust in the power of the resurrected Christ to get it. And when we do, we will experience His Kingdom, and we will know God. We will see Him...in plain sight.
